Chenghua Doucai chicken pot cups were the imperial cups of the Ming Dynasty Emperor Chenghua, and due to the high demands of the imperial family, the finished product rate was not high. In the ancient porcelain collectors have been circulated such a sentence: “rather than saving into kilns, not met rich.” Another in the “Wanli wild get chapter” is “into the kiln wine cups, no pair to bo silver hundred gold.” Chenghua official kiln porcelain can be seen to the extent that people are sought after.

On April 8, 2014 Sotheby’s Hong Kong held its important Chinese Porcelain and Arts & Crafts Spring Sale, with the Ming Chenghua Doucai Chicken Pot Cup from the Meiyintang Collection, estimated at HK$200-300 million, being the focus of the sale. Estimated at HK$200 million to HK$300 million, this is the most expensive ancient Chinese porcelain auction at present. It was collected by London collector Mrs. Leopold Dreyfus back in the 1950s and has since been in the collection of Mae Young Hall. The lot opened at around 12:20 p.m. with a starting bid of HK$160 million and was sold for HK$281.24 million after eight bids from Shanghai collector Liu Yiqian.
